Count the cost before making commitment

Luke 14:28  “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?”

A building may be left uncompleted if the contractor begins construction before estimating the cost.  Commitment to Jesus may mean financial loss, loss of social status and have to give up control of our jobs, our money, our time.  We may be hated, persecuted and/or put to death.  If we don’t count the cost of our commitment, we might abandon our faith when times get tough.  Being a follower of Christ doesn’t mean our life will be free from trouble.  We must count the cost so that we will hold from to our faith and not turn back from following Jesus.
