Our God is a jealous God

Deuteronomy 4:24 “The Lord your God is a devouring fire; he is a jealous God.”
Deuteronomy 5:7 “You must not have any other god but me.”

God is morally perfect and hates sin.  Sin keeps us from God’s presence.  Fortunately, God created a plan to reconcile us to Him through Christ.  His kind of jealousy defends His Word and guards His honor.  Because He makes an exclusive demand on us, we must treat Him as the only Lord and God.

When we put God first, He promises to reward us with His presence, His guidance and His provision.  In order to put God first, we must do five things:
1.  Recognize what we are putting in God’s place
2.  Renounce our substitute god as unworthy of our devotion
3.  Repent and ask God for forgiveness
4.  Restructure our priorities so that our motive is loving God
5.  Examine our priorities and motives daily

God expects us to fear Him, live in a way that pleases Him, love Him, serve Him and obey His commands. Because of His awesome power and justice, we cannot stand before Him without His mercy, and, although we deserve severe punishment, God has chosen mercy when we seek Him.
