Dare to Be the First One to Change (December 20, 2013)

Romans 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

We like being first, most of the time, except when it comes to changing our hearts, minds and behavior, then we want someone else to go first particularly when we feel we have been wronged.  If we resist the Spirit and keep Him from doing God’s work in our lives, we will be spiritually empty and unable to fulfill God’s purpose in our lives.  An empty pitcher cannot pour out life-giving water nor can an empty spirit give life to those around it.

“We need to surrender our hearts, attitudes, and words to God in practical ways–practical ways that will stretch us, even when our pride does not want it.  Especially then.  In fact, those times are the perfect opportunity to reject our desire and choose God’s.  You will find, more often than not, that if you make the first move, things will improve.”¹

Today, dare to look for ways to bless others.

[Read Luke 17-24]

Luke 24:52-53 So they worshiped him and then returned to Jerusalem filled with great joy.  And they spent all of their time in the Temple, praising God.

Father God,
I realize that I need to change my heart and my attitudes instead of demanding that other people change theirs.  I want to be able to complete Your purpose in my life.  Search me. Cleanse me. Fill me. Use me. Amen.
