2 Corinthians 8:7 But just as you excel in everything–in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us–see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
Christmastime is the season of giving. It is the time of year when thoughts of giving, compassion, and generosity are nearest our minds. But we should be filled with generosity and love all year looking for ways to bless those who need love, encouragement and compassion. The needs are easiest to see when our thoughts are on the Giver of all things. When we focus our minds on Jesus, He tells us things we need to know, shows us people who need our love and compassion, and gives us everything we need to meet those needs.
“It is easy to think of lofty ideas of love, grace, forgiveness…and yes, giving. And, all would be easy to do if we only had to come up with heady theories and ideas. But if we are to live in faith and be all that God has made us to be, we must also embrace the truth that because God is generous in Spirit, we too are to be conformed into His image as givers, generous with or time, hearts, money, concern–and everything else that makes up life.”¹
Today, dare to show kindness to someone you meet by finding a way to bless and encourage them.
[Read Mark 9-16]
Mark 10:43-45 “But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. For even the Son of Man came not to be served bu to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Forgive me for focusing on my own needs and failing to see the needs of those around me. Open my eyes and head to those around me who need to know Your love. Give me a willingness and ability to help them. Give me a generous heart and spirit. Amen.
