John 16:13 When the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.
There is a story in 2 Chronicles 18 about King Jehoshaphat and King Ahab who were discussing going to war against a common enemy. King Jehoshaphat wanted to consult with God while King Ahab wanted to trust his own instincts. God sent a lying spirit among the 400 advisers of King Ahab in order to bring judgment on him for his sins but King Jehoshaphat was kept safe.
There are lying spirits among us today. These spirits are more than willing to tell us what we want to hear. If we aren’t careful, they will get us into a heap of trouble. This is what it is important to maintain a close relationship with the Holy Spirit. According to John 16:13, when we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, He will guide us into all truth which may be hard to hear but necessary for our spiritual growth.
“When you live in the truth and by the truth, the Holy Spirit of truth in you will guide you in all truth. You will have a sense of what is true and what is not. This is extremely important in these days where deception is rampant. Without that sense of what is true, you can be deceived and make terrible mistakes in your decisions. You can trust someone you shouldn’t. You can do something you think is right and find out it was the wrong thing to do.”¹
[Read Joshua 1-8]
Joshua 1:8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.
Thank You for Your Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit, You have given to me to guide me and fill me with truth and understanding. Keep me undeceived. Help me to never be influenced by a lying spirit even in the mouth of someone who is supposed to be Your messenger. Lead me always in the way of truth. Amen.
