Ephesians 6:11-12 Take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
There are two additional tools we can use to defend ourselves against Satan. Memorizing Scripture to use to put Satan in his place and pray in the Spirit on all occasions. These last two are the only offensive weapons we need. In Ephesians, Paul equips believers to defend themselves against Satan’s strategies.
“Being girded with truth is the first step in putting on God’s armor, for truth is key to wearing the rest.
The helmet of salvation protects us only as we live out our true identity in Christ.
The shield of faith enables us to advance despite adverse circumstances only as we rely on the trustworthiness of the God revealed in Scripture.
We strap on the sandals that bring inner and interpersonal peace only as we commit our cause to the justice of God and forgive those who sin against us.
The breastplate of righteousness wards off the devil’s thrusts only as we identify and reject sin in order to live godly lives.”¹
Ephesians 6:17b-18 Take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
We live in a dark world that just keeps getting darker. Some days it is hard to be the light that some don’t want to see. Remind me of Your Word when I am desperate for encouragement. Thank You for the gift of prayer and our privilege of being able to speak directly to You. Thank You for not getting angry or frustrated about our persistence rather You encourage persistent prayer. Amen.
