Victory In Christ (July 10, 2013)

1 John 5:4-5 “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world; and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.”

Christ, through His death on the cross, has already secured the victory.  This doesn’t mean that Satan has given up.  He continues to try to convince us that we are disappointments to God and we should give up; however, God’s Word tells us that God loves us so much that He sent His Son to die in order to save us and give us eternal life.  God’s Word also tells us the battle is already won through Christ’s death and resurrection.  Satan knows this which is why he seeks to steal us away from God.

God has given us some spiritual armor to wear and weapons to use to demolish Satan’s strongholds, take captive every thought and make them obedient to Christ.

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God,so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore , take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, 15 and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE ; 16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints (Ephesians 6:10-18)

God urges us to pray always and put on our spiritual armor each and every day to fight our battles.  It is important to remember two things:  1) the battle is already won; and 2) we can’t fight the battle alone.  We must fight in the spirit of Jesus Christ.  “The battle is not yours but God’s” (2 Chronicles 20:15).

When this perishable will have put on the imperishable and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:54-57, NASB)

“For believers, death is momentary–a passage into the presence of Christ.  Death is the path to full knowledge and the end of Satan’s obstruction of our understanding.  God manifests His final victory after indwelling our life of struggle.  Beyond death is the reward we were seeking as we grappled with the forces of the world.”  {p. 216, “The Mind of Christ Workbook“}

We received the mind of Christ when we accepted Him as our Lord and Savior.  We only need to learn how to live by the mind of Christ in the world.

[Read Mark 10-13]

Mark 13:26 Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with great power and glory.

Father God,
Jesus is my Savior.  In Christ, I have victory over the world.  I place my life on the altar as a living sacrifice to You in an act of worship.  Teach me to use Your spiritual weapons to make every thought obedient to Christ. Amen.
