Love is a Verb, Part 2 (July 4, 2013)

1 Corinthians 13:5b-7 It [Love] is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.  It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.  Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Love is Not Provoked (Holy Temperament)
We are to control our temper and not be easily angered.

Love Does Not Take Into Account a Wrong (Holy Bookkeeping)
We should not be making a list of wrongs committed against us, or holding grudges.  If we love, we will be forgiving.

Love Does Not Rejoice in Unrighteousness (Holy Conscience)
We should not rejoice when evil takes control.  Holy love will cast evil out of our life.

Love Rejoices in the Truth (Holy Mind)
We should rejoice when the truth wins out over evil.

Love Bears All Things (Holy Stability)
As Christ-followers, we do not show love only in certain situations or conditions. We are to demonstrate love even when it’s difficult.

Love Believes All Things (Holy Values)
We should demonstrate the same faith in people that Jesus did.  We cannot predict the outcome of a situation because of who a person is or what kind of life circumstances he had.

Love Hopes All Things (Holy Expectations)
We are not asked to approve of a person’s current condition, but we are called to see a person’s potential if they have Christ in his/her life.

Love Endures All  Things (Holy Sacrifice)
The greatest example of endurance is God watching His Son suffer and die on the cross without stepping in to save Him.  His perfect love made a holy sacrifice.

“All these characteristics complement one another.  A love which behaves royally will rejoice in the truth.  A person who believes all things will also hope all things.  The various operations of perfect love will enhance one another.  The deeper we get into the mind of Christ, the more we see wholeness and unity.” {p. 198, “The Mind of Christ Workbook“}

[Read Matthew 20-22]

Matthew 20:28 “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Father God,
You clearly showed Your love for me by sending Jesus to die for my sins.  Because I have been so greatly loved, I want to love others with Your kind of love.  Live in me and love through me so others will experience Your redeeming love. Amen.
