Characteristics of a Servant Mind Part 2 (June 4, 2013)

Loyal

Luke 16:13 “No one can serve two masers. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

“Loyalty frees God to promote you within Kingdom work.” {p. 118 “The Mind of Christ Workbook“}

Being loyal to God means having an undivided heart.  Loyalty and obedience may require sacrifice and death.  You can’t refuse to do what God requires and continue to call Him Lord.

Faithful

1 Corinthians 4:2 Now, a person who is put in charge as a manager must be faithful.

“Faithfulness frees God to expand your ministry.” {p. 119 “The Mind of Christ Workbook“}

Being faithful means you are confident in the Lord and His plan.  You won’t break your covenant with Him because you disagree or lack courage.

Watchful

1 Thessalonians 5:6 So be on your guard, not asleep like the others.  Stay alert and be clearheaded.

“Watchfulness frees God to speak.” {p. 119 “The Mind of Christ Workbook“}

Being watchful means that you are alert and look for how God is speaking to you and what He wants you to do.

Courageous

1 Samuel 17:47 “And everyone assembled here will know that the Lord rescues his people, but not with sword and spear.  This is the Lord’s battle and he will give you to us.”

“Courage frees God to protect you.” {p. 120 “The Mind of Christ Workbook“}

Being courageous means that you demonstrate conviction about God’s priorities.  You take chances.

Not Quarrelsome

2 Timothy 2:24 “And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves.”

“Not being quarrelsome frees God to focus on the main thing.” {p. 121 “The Mind of Christ Workbook“}

Not being quarrelsome means that you wait for God’s work in others.  You don’t set out to start arguments to evoke the changes you think need to be made in someone else’s life.

[Read Matthew 17-19]

Matthew 17:20 “You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them.  “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘move from here to there,’ and it would move.  Nothing would be impossible.”

Father God,
You know what will allow me to experience life to the fullest.  You sent Jesus to give me that abundant life. Teach me your servant ways and I will follow them. Amen.
