Two Reasons for Servanthood (June 1, 2013)

Philippians 2:7 Jesus “made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant”.

Two Reasons for Servanthood:

1)  It is a command.  God expects us to serve.
2)  Jesus is our model. Jesus came to Earth to serve and He is our example and who we are to be like.

“God demands service not out of His need, but out of our need.” {p. 111 “The Mind of Christ Workbook“}

Society has denounced a willing subjection of ourselves to another person.  We are now employees who demand rights over submission.  In some cases, we don’t serve others completely out of a desire to help, but as a means to earn a paycheck.  Sometimes, God calls us to a job we dislike and we tolerate for the income we receive.  It is during this time that we must work hard to do the right thing.

[Read Matthew 7-9]

Matthew 7:12 “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.”

Father God,
It is enough for me to be like my Master.  Work in a special way this week to develop in me an attitude of servanthood. Amen.
