Fruit of the Spirit–Christ’s Lifestyle (May 25, 2013)

Galatians 5:22-23 “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance; against such there is no law.”

“Lifelong Objective:  In Christ you will develop the mental quality of discernment and use it to display love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance. {p. 90 “The Mind of Christ Workbook‘}

The Bible says that a true mark of a follower of Christ is the bearing of fruit.  If we are not bearing spiritual fruit, then others will not see Christ in us.  There are three ways to live:

1.  Like  a tree bearing good fruit–love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance.
2.  Like a tree bearing bad fruit–hate, hurt, discord, impatience, harshness, corruption, faithlessness, arrogance and self-indulgence.
3.  Like a tree bearing no fruit–an unbeliever who does good works and refuses to acknowledge Christ.  He becomes like the fig tree that Jesus cursed in Matthew 21:18-19.

[Read John 7-9]

John 7:37-38 On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart’.”

Father God,
I am thirsty for Your living water.  I believe in Jesus and that He came to save me.  I want to display the fruits of the Spirit in my life.  Help me develop the discernment I need to produce spiritual fruit in my life. Amen.
