Pre-Decisions (April 18, 2013)

“God may have intended that one encounter on that day, only for me–to soften my heart.” {p.93 “The 10 Second Rule“}.

Part of practicing the 10-Second Rule is making a pre-decision about what you will do in particular situations, especially when you don’t get a clear picture of what God wants you to do.  Last night I was shopping and a woman came up to me and started talking.  I kept trying to decide if this was time to practice the 10-Second Rule but received no indication.  Listening to her was the only thing I could do, so for 20 or so minutes I listened to her talk about what was on her heart.  Since she gave me no opportunity to say a word, that was all I did.

Before I had heard of the 10-Second Rule, I had an opportunity to help someone in the parking lot of a grocery store.  Someone approached me and asked for a few dollars for gas money to get home.  My heart said fill up the gas tank, but my mind rebelled.  I did give a couple of dollars not knowing if it would be used for its intended purpose; however, it did make me feel good and softened me to do better the next time.   Had I made a pre-decision about that situation, I could have followed the prodding of my heart.

[Read Luke 13]

Luke 13:24  “Work hard to enter the narrow door to God’s Kingdom, for many will try to enter but will fail.”

Choosing to follow Jesus is a decision that must be made while we are living on earth.  Once we die, it will be too late.  We may know Christ, but in order for Him to know us, we must serve Him and have a relationship with Him.

Father God,
We don’t like to think about how narrow the road to heaven is because it means we have to give up certain ideas, beliefs, things to travel it.  Mainly we have to give up ourself.  Help me make wise pre-decisions now so that I won’t have to struggle with them later.  Amen.
