Being Faithful in Small Things (April 16, 2013)

“…it’s far easier to dream of glory than doing whatever it takes to achieve the dream–especially in the spiritual realm.  And most of the hard work it takes to build a life that truly pleases God usually goes unnoticed by nearly everyone–except God.” {p. 82, “The 10 Second Rule“}

In Luke 16, Jesus tells us if we are not faithful in small things, we won’t be faithful in large ones.  This is exactly why God wants us to start small.  He is testing us.  He wants to know whether we will glorify Him or ourselves.  Will we die to the need to bring attention to ourselves or will we hog all of the glory?  God desires a life of self-sacrifice.  We must die to our own needs.

“Many dream of doing great things for God, half hoping he won’t ask. Fewer wake each day longing to be used by him–that day.” {p. 84 “The 10 Second Rule“}

[Read Luke 11]

Luke 11:33 “No one lights a lamp and then hides it or puts it under a basket.  Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where its light can be seen by all who enter the house.”

Christians are to be a light in the darkness.  We are called to live our lives so that others will see Christ in us and be drawn to His love.

Father God,
Dying to self is not an easy task.  Help me be a light in the darkness. Amen.
