Training to be Godly (April 13, 2013)

“[Living out the will of God is] that place where self-sacrifice no longer feels like duty, and the joy of being in the will of God drowns out most of the cost.” {p.68 ‘The 10 Second Rule“}

We don’t just pray and automatically become godly or live holy lives.  We have to make a decision to allow the Holy Spirit to change us.  We have to practice making wise choices, loving others, and being obedient.  The rewards will be many, including joy and peace as well as becoming more godly and holy.

[Read Luke 9:28-62]

Luke 9:58,62 But Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.”
But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.”

Following Jesus will not be easy.  He never promised it would.  He told us we would be intimidated, taunted, persecuted and possibly even tortured.  We might lose material possessions, our jobs and sometimes our families.  A remarkable difference from the prosperity teaching we hear today.

Father God,
Following Christ isn’t always easy even when we are encouraged to do so.  I sometimes think it would be easier to do if we suffered real persecution when we followed You.  Teach/train me to become a godly and obedient follower.  Amen.
