God’s Gift of Salvation (March 24, 2013)

Ephesians 2:8-10 God saved you by his grace when you believed.  And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.  Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.  For we are God’s masterpiece.  He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Salvation is a gift not a reward.  We can’t earn it.  All we have to do is believe in Christ–that He is God’s Son, was crucified for our sins and was resurrected.  It’s so easy that we feel we must make it difficult.  We want it to be about rules, laws, good deeds–doing something.  Do we feel guilty accepting grace for nothing?  Actually, salvation isn’t free.  The price, though steep, was paid in full by Christ.  We should do good deeds out of our love for God, not as a requirement for salvation.

Father God,
Thank You for the gift of salvation we receive through Jesus Christ, Your Son.  Amen.
