Mark 4:40-41 Then He asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the winds and waves obey Him!”
Up until the day Christ was crucified, the disciples hadn’t realized fully who Jesus was. He was their Rabbi. Sometimes they would catch a glimpse of His true identity, yet at the most inopportune times they would suffer a lack of faith. This isn’t just an affliction the disciples had. Even though we have the written Word and read the testimonies of those who followed Him or were healed by Him, at times we still lack faith that He will be there for us. Maybe we should reconsider our doubt when we read the story of the winds and the waves.
We tend to believe what we can see, but You call us to a different kind of belief. We should never doubt the one who commands the winds and waves to obey Him. Increase our faith especially when it means we have to get out of the boat of insecurity and doubt. Amen.
