Judges 2:7 And the Israelites served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua, and the leaders who outlived him–those who had seen all the great things God had done for Israel.
Judges 10:13-14 Yet you have abandoned me and served other gods. So I will not rescue you anymore. Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen! Let them rescue you in your hour of distress.
It’s not so much that the Israelites forgot what God had done for them–they didn’t experience it firsthand–their ancestors did. When all who had seen the mighty acts of God passed away, the Israelites were no longer reminded of their past. This doesn’t make them less accountable, but it serves as a reminder to us.
We live in a country whose freedom, like Israel’s, came at a price. Brave men and women have sacrificed their lives fighting for our freedom. We should be grateful to God for our freedoms; however, we’ve abandoned Him to serve other gods–money, celebrities, politicians, careers, education, spouse, children.
Just like Israel during the time of the judges, we have come to a pivotal time when we must choose whom we will serve. God reached a point when He decided not to rescue Israel any longer.
- Has He reached that point with us? Is He fed up with our obsession with he economy and the stock market?
- Is He angry because we would rather worship the stars in the movies and television rather than Him?
- Is He grieving because when we are in the midst of a crisis, we turn to the world and/or our government for help instead of to Him?
- Is He mourning because He sent His one and only Son to die for our sins but we want to minimize His sacrifice by being politically correct?
You are the only solution to the world’s problems. Christ came to save us and we’ve trivialized His sacrifice by continuing to search for answers elsewhere. Suffering people are everywhere and need the saving grace Christ offers. Let me set an example of faith and trust in You for others to see. The world may believe it holds all the answers to life’s problems, but in reality its solution only serves to highlight our great need fro Christ. Lord, please don’t give up on us yet. Amen.
